Florida is home to 122,691 Filipino Americans, according to the 2010 Census. The largest community is in Jacksonville. The 2000 Census reported there were around 15,000 Filipino Americans living in the Jacksonville metropolitan area, though community leaders estimated the true number was closer to 25,000. Indeed, the 2010 Census found that community numbered at 25,033, about 20% of the state's Filipino Americans. Many of Jacksonville's Filipinos served in, or otherwise had ties to, the United States Navy, which has two bases in Jacksonville. Two of Florida's other metropolitan areas have large Filipino American communities: the Miami metropolitan area has 21,535, and the Tampa Bay Area has 18,724.
