  • Lieutenant General Denzil Lakshman Kobbekaduwa RWP, RSP, VSV, USP, rcds (Royal College of Defence Studies), psc (Passed Staff College), Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) - One of the greatest Generals in modern Sri Lankan history & General Officer Commanding Northern Province. Assassinated at Araly Point, Kayts on August 8, 1992. (See also under Sportsmen and Sports Administrators).
  • Lieutenant General Parami Kulatunga RSP,VSV, USAWC (United States Army War College) GW - former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, Security Forces Commander- Vanni and General Officer Commanding 22 Division. Assassinated on June 26, 2006.
  • Major General L.T. (Lalin) Fernando psc-Northern Commander (1980/1981).
  • Major General T.R.T. (Tissa) Jayatunge- Raised the 1st Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment in 1980 which has now developed into 28 battalions.

  • Major General Nihal Ranjith Marambe RWP,RSP, USP, psc, Deputy Security Forces Commander - Jaffna and Commandant- Sri Lanka Army Command and Staff College. Also Cricket Captain and Lion in 1970 and Fullback/ Rugby Coloursman in SP Samarasekera's famous rugby XV of 1970. Was also first Trinitian to score a double century at cricket which was 202 n.o. versus Kingswood at Randles Hill in 1969. Defence Services Representative on the former Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka.
  • Major General Niranjan Asoka Ranasinghe- RSP, VSV, USP, ndc, psc, Isc- General Officer Commanding 56 Division and Commandant Army Command and Staff College. Also Founder Commandant- Defence Services Command and Staff College. The most senior officer as per Commissioned Service ahead of the tri forces Commanders and Chief of Defence Staff on retirement on 55th Birthday on December 15, 2010, the same day that the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps celebrated its 55th anniversary. Trinity Rugby Lion in 1975 after single handedly winning the inaugural Philip Buultjens Trophy for Sevens by diving to score the match winning corner flag try by slipping a tackle from winger Royce Koelmeyer against Prop Ifthikar Hassan's Royalists in the Final in 1975. Also Flanker in Chan Ye Ching's all conquering Rugby XV of 1974 which has three yet unbroken inter schools rugby records of 70/8 versus S. Thomas, 64/3 versus the Anthonians and 53/3 versus Wesley. Won the First XV jersey against the Joes with Rohan Sourjah and Sen Yu Suan( both 1974 Rugby Lions and 1975 captain and Vice Captain) under Jeffery Yu in 1973 which has the all time yet unbroken series record of 78/0 against them. One of the thirteen freshers at the 1973 Bradby second leg at Maitland Crescent which beat Michael Muller's Royalists 12/4 after being beaten 4/18 in the first leg at Nittawela. Also Basketball Captain in 1974. Equaled the all time Trinity inter-house record ( Ryde) where he captained all five recognised sports of that time- Athletics,Basketball, Cricket, Hockey and Rugby, a record held by fellow Rydite and First XV rugby team mate S.B. Herath, the latter who was 1973 Trinity Rugby vice captain and combined Schools Prop Forward.
  • Major General A.M. (Mano) Perera RWP, RSP,psc- General Officer Commanding 52 Division and Area Commander- Kandy.
  • Major General S.V. (Sanath) Panabokke- KSV,Deputy Commandant- Volunteer Force.
  • Brigadier L.N. ( Lyn) Wickremasuriya- World War II Veteran- Raised the 4th Regiment of the Ceylon Artillery in 1962, which after 50 years today, has 14 Regiments.
  • Brigadier John.F. Halangode- World War II Veteran- Raised the 1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch in December 1962, which after 50 years today, has developed into 24 battalions.
  • Brigadier N.P. (Nimal) Fernando psc- Area Commander- Kandy.
  • Brigadier JPA (Japana) Jayawardena USP-Commander Logistics Command. Second Trinitian to be awarded rugby colours and Lion at the end of the first rugby season (in 1966) after the legendary Prop Gamini Weerasinghe from D.N. Frank's invincible Trinity XV of 1956.
  • Brigadier C.N. Panabokke KSV- Deputy Commandant- Volunteer Force.
  • Colonel W.G.K. (Udaya) Aryaratne RSP, USP- Area Commander Vavuniya and Mannar and Deputy Commandant- General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy. Also incumbent Principal of Trinity College, Kandy.
  • Colonel Fazli Laphir- Parama Weera Vibhushanaya (PWV),RWP,RSP- Commanding Officer of the 1st Special Forces Regiment and Second Trinitian to be awarded the highest gallantry award in Sri Lanka. Killed in Action in Mullaitivu in July 1996.
  • Lt. Saliya Aladeniya- (PWV, First Sri Lankan and First Trinitian among 23 others now, to be awarded the Parama Weera Vibushanaya, the highest gallantry medal in Sri Lanka (and equivalent to the Victoria Cross in the UK and Param Vir Chakra in India) for refusing to abandon the injured under his command, fighting bravely until the Kokavil camp was overrun in June 1990.

OLD TRINITIANS WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES OF SRI LANKA DURING THE 30 YEARS ETHNIC CONFLICT & EELAM WARS, FROM JUNE 1979 TO MAY 2009

The timeline of the start of the Eelam War was considered and deemed as June 1979 as that was the landmark that President J.R. Jayewardene officially responded to combating Terrorism by first appointing then Brigadier Tissa Indika Weeratunga - later Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and four star General - as the first Security Forces Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. Some served throughout this 30 year period like Maj. Gen. N.A. Ranasinghe, AVM Saranath Rambukwella and Air Commodore P.B. Ratnayake. Some served only a short period (some as little as 4-6 months, especially those of the Sri Lanka Rifle Corps, who were Plantation/Estate Superintendents by profession.)


A Total of 112 Trinitians were Commissioned in all three Armed Forces: . A total of 15 were Killed In Action
