  • Guo Xiang (Chinese: 郭襄; Mandarin Pinyin: Guō Xiāng; Jyutping: Gwok3 Soeng1) was the founder of Emei and the younger daughter of Guo Jing and Huang Rong. In the prologue, she met Jueyuan and Zhang Junbao (later Zhang Sanfeng) near Shaolin Monastery and Jueyuan recited the Nine Yang Manual to her, Zhang, and Wuse before his death. Guo Xiang's prowess in martial arts improved after she integrated the manual's skills into her existing ones and she became an accomplished martial artist later. Guo Xiang inherited the Heaven Sword and knowledge of the secrets in the weapons from her family during the Battle of Xiangyang. After her family members sacrificed their lives to defend Xiangyang from Mongol invaders, she continued to roam the jianghu for years before founding Emei. (See Template:Guo Jing and Huang Rong's family tree for her family tree.)
  • Abbess Miejue (traditional Chinese: 滅絕師太; simplified Chinese: 灭绝师太; Mandarin Pinyin: Mièjué Shītài; Jyutping: Mit6-juet3 Si1-taai3), whose name 'Miejue' literally means "to destroy and eliminate", is the dogmatic leader of Emei. She does not tolerate any form of evil and wishes to purge the world of evil and make Emei a leading sect in the wulin (martial artists' community), which leads her to commit all sorts of deeds that are ethically and morally vicious. She hates the Ming Cult not only because of its evil name, but also due to Yang Xiao's indirect involvement in the events leading to Guhongzi's death. Miejue refuses Zhang Wuji's help and plunges to her death after naming Zhou Zhiruo her successor.
  • Guhongzi (traditional Chinese: 孤鴻子; simplified Chinese: 孤鸿子; Mandarin Pinyin: Gūhóngzǐ; Jyutping: Gu1-hung4-zi2) was Miejue's senior. He challenged Yang Xiao to a martial arts contest and he borrowed Miejue's Heaven-Reliant Sword, hoping that it would give him an advantage. However, he lost to Yang Xiao and the sword was seized by Yang before he could even unsheathe it. Yang Xiao made some unkind remarks and threw the sword to the ground and walked away. Guhongzi felt very disgraced and insulted and eventually died in anger. His death caused Miejue to bear a grudge against Yang Xiao and the Ming Cult.
  • Ji Xiaofu (traditional Chinese: 紀曉芙; simplified Chinese: 纪晓芙; Mandarin Pinyin: Jì Xiǎofú; Jyutping: Gei3 Hiu2-fu4) is one of Miejue's students who is seen as a potential successor to the sect's leadership. She was Yin Liting's original fiancée under an arrangement but fell in love with Yang Xiao instead and bore him a daughter, causing her to leave Emei to raise her child. She names her daughter 'Buhui' (literally means "no regrets") to express her love for Yang Xiao. She is eventually found by Miejue, who forces her to kill her lover. She refuses and is killed by her teacher in anger. Her remains are buried by Zhang Wuji and her daughter at Butterfly Valley.
  • Ding Minjun (Chinese: 丁敏君; Mandarin Pinyin: Dīng Mǐnjūn; Jyutping: Ding1 Man5-gwan1) is one of Miejue's most senior students. She is jealous of their teacher's favouritism towards Ji Xiaofu and later towards Zhou Zhiruo. Peng Yingyu once remarked that she is "ugly in appearance and evil hearted" (毒手無鹽; literally: "venomous hand without salt") after she blinded his right eye with her sword. She once self-appointed herself as Emei's acting leader when Zhou Zhiruo went missing, but her peers were reluctant to follow her for her selfishness.
  • Bei Jinyi (traditional Chinese: 貝錦儀; simplified Chinese: 贝锦仪; Mandarin Pinyin: Bèi Jǐnyí; Jyutping: Bui3 Gam2-ji4) is one of Miejue's disciples and a junior to Ding Minjun and Ji Xiaofu. When her teacher orders her and Ding to pursue and kill Yang Buhui, she decides to spare the child on account of her past relations with Ji Xiaofu (Yang Buhui's mother), so she lies to Miejue that Yang has already left Butterfly Valley.
