Oldest American (female and Male) By State
This is a list of the oldest people (women and men) by birth from each U.S. state. The United States has the world's largest validated supercentenarian population. The records largely reflect population distribution and systems of recordkeeping 110 or more years ago, when several states didn't yet exist. States farther west thus have fewer verified recordholders. Those entries color-coded as "verified" have been validated by GRG. Those color-coded as 'pending' are backed by at least one document reviewed by the GRG supporting the reported age, but not the three necessary for validation by that institution. Those color-coded as 'unverified' are not (yet) backed by documentation supporting the reported age to the standards of the GRG.

Famous quotes containing the words oldest, american and/or state:
“I perceive that in these woods the earliest settlements are, for various reasons, clustering about the lakes, but partly, I think, for the sake of the neighborhood as the oldest clearings. They are forest schools already established, great centres of light.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“There exists in a great part of the Northern people a gloomy diffidence in the moral character of the government. On the broaching of this question, as general expression of despondency, of disbelief that any good will accrue from a remonstrance on an act of fraud and robbery, appeared in those men to whom we naturally turn for aid and counsel. Will the American government steal? Will it lie? Will it kill?We ask triumphantly.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“If a hermit lives in a state of ecstasy, his lack of comfort becomes the height of comfort. He must relinquish it.”
—Jean Cocteau (18891963)
