List of Selective High Schools in New South Wales - Creative and Performing Arts High Schools

The Department of Education and Communities runs six creative and performing arts high schools. These schools aim to foster excellence in creative fields while teaching the same core syllabus as other state-run high schools. These schools are accorded an unusually high degree of autonomy by the department in selecting students and teaching staff. The schools boast specialised facilities and equipment and competition for places is acute.

This list also includes three Independent schools: The Australian International Performing Arts High School, Talent Development High School and the McDonald College.

Famous quotes containing the words creative, performing, arts, high and/or schools:

But the creative person is subject to a different, higher law than mere national law. Whoever has to create a work, whoever has to bring about a discovery or deed which will further the cause of all of humanity, no longer has his home in his native land but rather in his work.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)

More than in any other performing arts the lack of respect for acting seems to spring from the fact that every layman considers himself a valid critic.
    Uta Hagen (b. 1919)

The arts are not just instantaneous pleasure—if you don’t like it, the artist is wrong. I belong to the generation which says if you don’t like it, you don’t understand and you ought to find out.
    John Drummond (b. 1934)

Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; to execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron; to execute upon them the judgment written.
    Bible: Hebrew Psalms 149:5-9.

Universal suffrage should rest upon universal education. To this end, liberal and permanent provision should be made for the support of free schools by the State governments, and, if need be, supplemented by legitimate aid from national authority.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
