After Misato, a nurse at local hospital, witnesses an accident she encounters a young woman who can seemingly see through the bodies of victims. The next day at work, while telling her coworkers of the strange woman, the very woman in question shows up at the door, and is introduced as Kasugano Ray, a young surgeon, who seeks work at Director Sawa's hospital. Ray initially refuses to operate on, then saves a sick criminal with an experimental procedure. Meanwhile, Misato along with nurses Rie, Rumi and Mami fight off other criminals who want to kill their sick associate.
2 "Partner" April 12, 2006 (2006-04-12)
A young girl needs a new heart, and her sister agrees to give her own. Ray implants Shinoyama Toshiaki's artificial heart, but doesn't tell the sisters. The sisters learn the value of their lives from this.
3 "Scenery Through The Glass" April 19, 2006 (2006-04-19)
When taken to a local aquarium, Ray learns that she must perform underwater surgery on the son of an important politician, who is infected with a dangerous pathogen that cannot be exposed to the air. Ray performs the surgery, using the swimsuit Shinoyama bought for her despite a power outage that gives her a limited time to complete it. Ray continues to bond with Kenji.
4 "Red Ribbon" April 26, 2006 (2006-04-26)
Ray's childhood friend Red Ribbon turns up at the scene of an accident with amnesia. Ray remembers her past where she was raised by the syndicate, and how she and a group of other children had numbers tattooed on them, and were raised isolated in a room to be used as unwilling organ donors.
5 "A Substitute" May 3, 2006 (2006-05-03)
A girl comes in with spontaneous bleeding and speaking as if possessed. In a flashback Ray tells of her first operation; where she cut off an enormous growth from her friend Miyabi because she had eaten a ceremonial oyster as part of her duties as a miko. In the present, the girl is experiences immense pain as a sympathetic response to the cherry tree being chainsawed. Before the tree is completely cut through Ray removes a cherry pit from her and concludes that the tree was using the girl as a way to stay alive and protect its offspring.
6 "A Gift" May 10, 2006 (2006-05-10)
Ray receives glass scalpels in the mail from an unknown source. At the hospital, a man is brought in who reacts with metal and electronics. It turns out he is a man from the syndicate that raised Ray and were responsible for sending the scalpels to allow Ray to operate on him as a test of her abilities.
7 "Lover" May 17, 2006 (2006-05-17)
Shinoyama's childhood friend Sumire returns and professes her love for him. When Sumire learns that Shinoyama loves Ray, and believes Ray is only using Shinoyama for her own purposes. In order to prove her love for him Sumire drinks alcohol and damages her own artificial organs in order to have them replaced by Shinoyama's, and has her wish granted when Ray herself performs the operation. Afterwards, just as Ray and Shinoyama start to discuss their relationship Koichi, Ray's childhood sweetheart, calls and leaves an enigmatic message.
8 "The Wriggling Past" May 24, 2006 (2006-05-24)
A girl is brought in who has an insect/fungus growing inside her. Ray operates, and she realizes it's a creation of the syndicate like the one that killed her friend Hana when they were children. At the end of the episode, and older Koichi is shown thinking about Ray and reminiscing that they will be together soon.
9 "The Clone" May 31, 2006 (2006-05-31)
Ray's investigation leads her to the village of Hotarudani where all the people disappeared overnight. On the way they meet a young man wishing to see his classmate, who has been out of school for months from an illness. The only residents of the village are a young woman named Saeko and her overly protective father. After she collapses it is revealed the girl is a clone of her father's wife, (who died of the same heart condition now afflicting Saeko) who was created by the syndicate as a replacement for her father.
10 "Reunion" June 7, 2006 (2006-06-07)
Ray and Shinoyama are attacked by a woman who looks like Ray. As it turns out The H Ring Man has tried to clone his mother Saeko, and Ray and One are the result. Ray learns this from her mother before One attacks them again. Koichi shows up to save them, then disappears.
11 "Painfully Loving..." June 14, 2006 (2006-06-14)
Sumire continues to try and win Shinoyama. Ray goes to confront the man with the H-ring and learn who she and One are cloned from, managing to sneak into the building where the syndicate is housed because of their identical appearances. When Ray confronts him, he says that Ray and One are failures because they don't have the memories of the original, while One tries to cover for him in their escape. However, Koichi shows up and shoots One, killing her, then he and The H-Ring Man escape.
12 "The Paradise Of Agony" June 21, 2006 (2006-06-21)
Ray and Shinoyama go to meet Koichi in a recreation of the H-ring Man's childhood village. He's living with a young girl, Honoka, a clone of his deceased mother, who died when he was 10 years old, though unlike One and Ray she retains the memories from her previous "life". Koichi appears and reveals himself to be a clone of the H-Ring Man, though he insists he is nothing like the man he was created from. Koichi kills the H-ring man in a rage, and a cave-in injures Shinoyama and Ray, blinding her in her right eye. When the hospital staff arrive, only Shinoyama can be found.
13 "Life" June 28, 2006 (2006-06-28)
Koichi has recreated the room where himself, Ray, Blue and the others grew up. He tries to take Ray's eyes back from Sumire, but shoots Red Ribbon when she attacks Ray and then commits suicide after Ray collapses and he believes her to be dead. After they are rescued it is discovered that Ray is going blind and Shinoyama takes care of her. They finally kiss, and Black Jack puts in new eyes for Ray, whose first new case is a possible cure for Kenji's illness.
