Largest Private Equity Firms
The following is a ranking of the largest private equity firms published in 2011. The ranking was compiled by Private Equity International, which reveals that the world's 50 largest private equity direct investment programs have raised in excess of US$325 billion since 2006. A previous ranking had been published in 2007.
The list includes very few venture capital firms, which tend to be smaller than their leveraged buyout counterparts; for a list of those see List of venture capital firms.

Famous quotes containing the words largest, private, equity and/or firms:
“Because it is in the nature of things that they become extreme, we have passed down from manliness to cruelty. If I had been told when I was 20 that there was a tavern in the town where the brave and the cruel were gathered together, I would have run all the way and I would have gone up to the largest and leatheriest of the denizens and said: If you truly love me, kill the bartender.”
—Quentin Crisp (b. 1908)
“If private men are obliged to perform the offices of government, to protect the weak and dispense justice, then the government becomes only a hired man, or clerk, to perform menial or indifferent services.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“If equity and human natural reason were allowed there would be no law, there would be no lawyers.”
—Christina Stead (19021983)
“While waiting to get married, several forms of employment were acceptable. Teaching kindergarten was for those girls who stayed in school four years. The rest were secretaries, typists, file clerks, or receptionists in insurance firms or banks, preferably those owned or run by the family, but respectable enough if the boss was an upstanding Christian member of the community.”
—Barbara Howar (b. 1934)
