As of February 2011 Iraq has a total electricity generation capacity of 9,000 MW.

Duhok

  • Duhok Gas Power Station, 500 MW, expected to be ready by early 2011.

Ninawa

  • Mosul Dam 750 MW + 200 MW + 60 MW
  • Al-Shemal power plant: he total capacity is 2,100 MW and it consists of 6 blocks, each of 350 MW capacity.

Salah ad Din Governorate

  • Samarra Dam which generates 75 MW

Erbil

  • Erbil power plant currently produces 500 MW and will be expanded to generate 875 MW by mid-2011.

Sulaymaniyah

  • Al Khairat power station, Karbala will be Iraq's biggest power plant with a capacity of 1,250 MW expected to be completed in first quarter of 2012.

  • Najaf Power Station with a cpacity of 300 MW.

Al-Qadisiyyah Governorate

  • Al Diwaniyah power station 250MW

Maysan Governorate

  • Kahlaa power station in Amarah with a capacity of 180 MW.

Dhi Qar Governorate

  • Nasiriyah thermal power station with a capacity of 210 MW.

Al Muthanna Governorate

  • Samawah power station 60 MW, $100-million built by Japan.

Basrah

  • Al Hartha station, a project will double the output of the Hartha station from 400 MW to 800 MW, the total cost of the project is estimated at $150 million which is funded by World Bank.
