About Perth Buses

Unlike the Perth suburban train services, the bus services in Perth are operated by three companies,Path Transit, Swan Transit and Southern Coast Transit, which are contracted with the Public Transport Authority, Government of Western Australia, under the Transperth brand name. This arrangement has been in place since 1996.

The average Perth bus route operates every 15 to 60 minutes on weekdays with more frequent services offered during peak times. Services generally finish after 12 am, though many routes finish in the 6-11 pm time frame. Weekend services are approximately half weekday levels.

Major routes are more frequent, with 5-15 minute services on weekdays and 30 minute services on weekends and evenings being offered. Recently there has been some weekend 15 minute running introduced on sections of some routes. The CircleRoute, Perth, Fremantle and Joondalup CATs, Rockingham City Shuttle and services such as the 920 and 940 are examples of high frequent services with buses every 10–15 minutes all day.

Timetables are colour coded with Northern timetables green, Eastern timetables red, South Eastern yellow, Southern orange and Western blue. Special services such as the CATs have their own characteristic colour with the Joondalup and Perth CATs grey, Fremantle CAT orange, CircleRoute aqua, and the Rockingham City Shuttle orange with a dolphin on the front.

The CircleRoute is a circular service running around the inner suburbs of Perth connecting with Fremantle, major hospitals and universities and school and shopping centres. The CircleRoute does not stop in Perth but connects with all train lines except the Thornlie Line.

The CATs are free services that run around the CBD of Perth, Fremantle and Joondalup. Services run 5 – 15 minutes on weekdays and 30 minutes weekends. Fremantle CATs also run on public holidays.

NightRider services operate Saturday nights from Fremantle running at every hour on the hour from 1am to 4am.

Bus routes usually terminate in the city at the Esplanade Busport or Wellington Street Bus Station, or at local bus and/or train stations in suburban areas.

Famous quotes containing the word perth:

To motorists bound to or from the Jersey shore, Perth Amboy consists of five traffic lights that sometimes tie up week-end traffic for miles. While cars creep along or come to a prolonged halt, drivers lean out to discuss with each other this red menace to freedom of the road.
