List of Melbourne Football Club Players

This is a list of every player to have at least played one senior VFL/AFL game for Melbourne Football Club since the inception of the VFL, of which Melbourne was a foundation club, in 1897.

Players are listed in order of debut, and the start of their Melbourne Football Club career is determined by their year of debut, and the end is determined by the year of their final game playing for Melbourne. This guideline results in the possibility that players may not have necessarily begun or finished their career on the Melbourne list within these periods listed. Players are numbered by their debut for the club and when multiple players debuted during the same match, they are numbered according to the alphabetical order of their surnames.

Statistics include only Melbourne careers, and are correct as of the end of the 2012 AFL season.

In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Liberty’s torch. In football you run over somebody’s face.
    Donald Hall (b. 1928)

Please accept my resignation. I don’t care to belong to any club that will have me as a member.
    Groucho Marx (1895–1977)

Will you see the players well bestowed? Do you hear, let them
be well used, for they are the abstracts and brief chronicles of the time. After your death you were better have a bad epitaph than their ill report while you live.
