  • Claudia Valentine is a private investigator in a series of books debuted 1988 by Australian Marele Day.
  • Mary Vance inherits her uncle’s detective agency in Miss Pinkerton, Inc. a radio program from 1941. She was played by Joan Blondell while Dick Powell played a police detective.
  • Hannah Van Doren is a writer of true crime stories and the daughter of a detective, in Homicide for Hannah (1941) and Hannah Says Foul Play (1946) by Dwight V. Babcock.
  • Harriet Vane, later Lady Peter Wimsey, is a character in detective novels and a couple of short stories by Dorothy Sayers, and in three novels 1998-2010 by Jill Paton Walsh (the first of these was based on an uncompleted manuscript by Sayers). She first appears in Strong Poison, accused of murdering her former lover, and is rescued from the gallows by the detective work of Sayer's fictional aristocratic sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey. In subsequent books she takes on a sleuthing role herself, while remaining as Wimsey's love interest and then wife. She was played by Constance Cummings in a 1941 film of Busman's Holiday (released in the United States as Haunted Honeymoon) and by Harriet Walter in a 1987 BBC adaptation of some of Sayer's books.
  • Tessa Vance is a young female homicide detective in two books by Australian Jennifer Rowe and in the television series Murder Call which screened 1997-2000 in Australia.
  • Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Ventano is a private investigator whose parents were infamous cat burglars, in a book series started in the early 1990s by Gloria White.
  • Emma Victor is a lesbian ex-leftie who becomes a private investigator in San Francisco in the ‘She Came…’ series by Mary Wings, beginning with ‘’She Came Too Late’’ (1986)
  • JoAne Vik is a former FBI profiler who has returned home to Norway and works with Adam Stubo in a series by Norwegian Anne Holt debuted 2006.
  • Hannah Vogel is a crime reporter in 1930s Nazi Germany in the series by author Rebecca Cantrell which debuted in 2009 with the publication of volume#1, "A Trace of Smoke."
