Non-driver Fatalities
- Lyle Kurtenbach (May 24, 1987): Spectator; Fatally injured by a wheel which flew off the car of Tony Bettenhausen and was hit into the stands by Roberto Guerrero, at the Indy 500. The race was sanctioned by USAC.
- Jean Patrick Hein (September 2, 1990): Track corner worker; Fatally injured after being struck by the car of Willy T. Ribbs during the Molson Indy Vancouver.
- Gary Avrin (July 14, 1996): Track corner worker; Fatally injured when struck by the crashing car of Jeff Krosnoff at the Molson Indy Toronto.
- Kenneth Fox, Michael Terry Tautkus, Sheryl Ann Laster (July 26, 1998): Three spectators were killed, and six others were injured by a wheel which flew off the car of Adrian Fernandez during the U.S. 500 at Michigan International Speedway.
- The injured include: David Silva, Gerald Bramer, Richard Bramer, Joyce Thompson, Doris Shuman, and Steve Dawson.
- Randy D. Pyatte, Jeff Patton, Dexter D. Mobley (May 1, 1999): Three spectactors were killed, and eight others (two of whom were children) were injured, at Lowe's Motor Speedway during the IRL VisionAire 500K. On the 61st lap, Stan Wattles crashed in turn four, shearing off both right-side wheels. The car of John Paul, Jr. struck one of the wheels, propelling it into the stands. A witness claimed a wheel with suspension pieces flew into the seats.
- Hailey McGee, a 9-year old girl, was one of the persons injured, suffering bruises to her brain and lung. The others injured include: Jeremy Jones (chest injury), Wesley J. Rice (stomach injury), Matthew J. Picklesimer (head laceration), Amanda R. Shondelmyer (head laceration, shoulder), Nathaniel Blosser (puncture wound), David Duncan (shoulder), Chad Duncan (leg).
