Edolas
Edolas (エドラス, Edorasu?) is a parallel universe that exists separately from Earthland, the universe in which Fairy Tail takes place. Edolas is inhabited by physical counterparts of characters from the series, though most of their personalities differ radically, as do a select few of their physical attributes such as height, age, and species. Among these inhabitants are Mystogan, Jellal Fernandes' counterpart, and Poluchka, the human counterpart of the dragon Grandine. As opposed to Earthland, magic is a limited resource in Edolas and cannot be used as a natural ability by humans, who instead perform magic with items infused with lacrima. Edolas' magic supply is replenished through the use of inter-dimensional portals called Anima (アニマ), which absorb magic power from Earthland and transform it into lacrima; this process can also affect wizards. However, the absorption process does not affect Dragon Slayers, Exceeds, or celestial spirits, While in Edolas, the protagonists are unable to perform magic until they ingest medicine called X-Balls provided by Mystogan. Mystogan eventually saves Magnolia by reversing the Anima portal to return the magic power to Earthland, permanently depleting Edolas' magic supply.
The Edolas Kingdom (エドラス王国, Edorasu Ōkoku) is a kingdom ruled by Faust (ファウスト, Fausuto), the nation's king until he is replaced by his son Mystogan. He strives to bestow a limitless supply of magic on his kingdom by ramming the lacrima crystal made from Magnolia's residents into Extalia by using the Dragon Chain Cannon (竜鎖砲, Ryūsahō), a weapon that is powered by Dragon Slayer magic. In addition, he can pilot an armored, dragon-shaped mecha called Droma Anim (ドロマ・アニム, Doroma Animu). The kingdom's airborne and ground assault military force, the Royal Army, is commanded by Pantherlily; "Fairy Hunter" Erza Nightwalker (エルザ・ナイトウォーカー, Eruza Naitowōkā), Erza Scarlet's ruthless counterpart who can use a magic spear with an interchangeable head; Hughes (ヒューズ, Hyūzu), a young man who uses a wand to control various attractions from Faust's indoor amusement park in combat; and Sugar Boy (シュガーボーイ, Shugābōi), a man capable of using a sword to soften materials. Placed in charge of the army are Faust's other subordinates: Byro (バイロ, Bairo), the elderly chief of staff capable of using various magical potions to cast spells; and Coco (ココ, Koko?), a woman in command of an army of flying beasts called Legions (レギオン, Region).
As with Earthland, an alternate version of the Fairy Tail guild exists in Edolas. Due to the prohibition of magic outside of the Edolas capital, Edolas' Fairy Tail is considered a dark guild, hunted by the Royal Army, and is the last remaining magic guild in Edolas. Its guildhall is built inside a cluster of large roots, which can mechanically burrow underground to change its location and escape the army. Its members are counterparts of Earthland's Fairy Tail wizards, save Lisanna Strauss, who acts as her deceased counterpart after being trapped in Edolas. Among its members are Natsu "Fireball" Dragion (ナツ・ドラギオン, Natsu Doragion?), Natsu Dragneel's timid counterpart who only acts confidently while driving vehicles, and is the guild's transportation specialist; Lucy Ashley (ルーシィ・アシュレイ, Rūshii Ashurei), a tomboyish version of Lucy Heartfilia who enjoys bullying her guildmates and has a fierce rivalry with the Edolas counterpart of Levy McGarden; and Gray Sorouge, (グレイ・ソルージュ, Gurei Sorūju) a version of Gray Fullbuster who wears multiple layers of clothing and harbors overt but one-sided romantic feelings for the Edolas counterpart of Juvia Lockser. The members of Edolas' Fairy Tail become allies to the Earthland Fairy Tail wizards and help them battle the Royal Army. The anime adaptation also features a counterpart of Gajeel, a mild-mannered news reporter and Edolas Fairy Tail's informant.
