List of Country Fire Authority Brigades

    Modern tourist guides have helped raised tourist expectations. And they have provided the natives—from Kaiser Wilhelm down to the villagers of Chichacestenango—with a detailed and itemized list of what is expected of them and when. These are the up-to- date scripts for actors on the tourists’ stage.

    I know of no country in which there is so little independence of mind and real freedom of discussion as in America.
    Alexis de Tocqueville (1805–1859)

    The day’s at end and there’s nowhere to go,
    Draw to the fire, even this fire is dying;
    Get up and once again politely lying
    Invite the ladies toward the mistletoe....
