Alex Neeson, played by Dario Coates, made his first on screen appearance on 17 December 2007. Alex was involved in the soap opera's first child swap storyline.
In October 2007 it was announced that Michelle Connor would find that Ryan was swapped at birth and that Alex was, in fact, her real son. The actor who plays Alex, Dario Coates stated in an interview that his character "Is just a normal teenager".
Biological son of Michelle Connor and her late partner, Dean, he is currently living with his legal father, Nick Neeson. Nick and his wife, Wendy, divorced over the row about Alex not being their biological son.
It was later revealed that Alex would find out the truth from the very child he got swapped with. Nick's biological son, Ryan, told Alex the truth when they fought in the street on 21 January 2008. Alex was hit by a car and both boys were taken to hospital.
