List of Class C Airports in The USA

Class C is a class of airspace in the United States which follows International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) air space designation. Class C airspace areas are designed to improve aviation safety by reducing the risk of midair collisions in the terminal area and enhance the management of air traffic operations therein.

Class C airspace protects the approach and departure paths from aircraft not under air traffic control. All aircraft inside Class C airspace are subject to air traffic control. Traffic operating under VFR must be in communication with a controller before entering the airspace. The airspace is similar to Class B's "upside-down wedding cake", but much smaller and simpler. The innermost ring typically extends from the surface area around the airport to 4,000 feet (1,220 m) AGL (above ground level), with a radius of 5 nautical miles (9 km); and an outer ring typically surrounds the inner ring and extends from a floor at 1,200 feet (370 m) AGL, to the ceiling at 4,000 feet (1,220 m) AGL, with a radius of 10 nautical miles (19 km); these dimensions are sometimes highly customized when deemed necessary by taking into account surrounding airspace design (e.g. presence of nearby Class B, etc.).

As of October 2012, there are 122 Class C airports in the United States (counting NAS Whiting Field as 2 different airports).

The following list of Class C airports is sorted by state/territory and IATA Airport Code/ICAO Airport Code.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, class and/or usa:

A man’s interest in a single bluebird is worth more than a complete but dry list of the fauna and flora of a town.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Lovers, forget your love,
And list to the love of these,
    She a window flower,
    And he a winter breeze.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

There is a certain class of unbelievers who sometimes ask me such questions as, if I think that I can live on vegetable food alone; and to strike at the root of the matter at once,—for the root is faith,—I am accustomed to answer such, that I can live on board nails. If they cannot understand that, they cannot understand much that I have to say.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

It is hereby earnestly proposed that the USA would be much better off if that big, sprawling, incoherent, shapeless, slobbering civic idiot in the family of American communities, the City of Los Angeles, could be declared incompetent and placed in charge of a guardian like any individual mental defective.
    Westbrook Pegler (1894–1969)
