History
Lincoln United Football Club began life as Lincoln Amateurs in 1938 and were admitted to the Lincoln League. In 1951, they signed a professional player from Nottingham Forest, which meant that they could no longer qualify as amateurs. After a brainstorming session between the players following an away match in Sleaford, they came up with the name Lincoln United.
Following a disappointing season that saw the departure of manager John Ramshaw and the failed appointment of Mark Shaw, the Whites were relegated to the Northern Premier League Division One South. Former keeper and erstwhile reserve team boss, Seamus Lawless, was subsequently handed the task of restoring credibility and led his charges into the 2008–09 season.
They reached the first round proper of the FA Cup in seasons 1991–92 and 1997–98.
