League of Ireland First Division

The League of Ireland First Division (Irish: Céad Roinn Sraith na hÉireann) is the second tier of the Republic of Ireland's national football league, the League of Ireland. The division was formed in 1985 as a result of the decision to split the League of Ireland into two divisions, which also created the League of Ireland Premier Division. In 2009, the FAI rejected proposals from clubs to remove the division and restore the League of Ireland to its original structure.

Famous quotes containing the words league, ireland and/or division:

I am not impressed by the Ivy League establishments. Of course they graduate the best—it’s all they’ll take, leaving to others the problem of educating the country. They will give you an education the way the banks will give you money—provided you can prove to their satisfaction that you don’t need it.
    Peter De Vries (b. 1910)

They call them the haunted shores, these stretches of Devonshire and Cornwall and Ireland which rear up against the westward ocean. Mists gather here, and sea fog, and eerie stories. That’s not because there are more ghosts here than in other places, mind you. It’s just that people who live hereabouts are strangely aware of them.
Dodie Smith, and Lewis Allen. Roderick Fitzgerald (Ray Milland)

For in the division of the nations of the whole earth he set a ruler over every people; but Israel is the Lord’s portion: whom, being his firstborn, he nourisheth with discipline, and giving him the light of his love doth not forsake him. Therefore all their works are as the sun before him, and his eyes are continually upon their ways.
    Apocrypha. Ecclesiasticus 17:17-9.
