League of Coloured Peoples - Aims

Aims

At the inaugural meeting, the The League of Coloured Peoples established four main aims, printed in each issue of The Keys:

  • To promote and protect the Social, Educational, Economic and Political Interests of its members;
  • To interest members in the Welfare of Coloured Peoples in all parts of the World;
  • To improve relations between the Races;
  • To cooperate and affiliate with organisations sympathetic to coloured people

In 1937, a fifth aim was added:

  • To render such financial assistance to coloured people in distress as lies within our capacity.

Famous quotes containing the word aims:

    It appears that ordinary men take wives because possession is not possible without marriage, and that ordinary women accept husbands because marriage is not possible without possession; with totally differing aims the method is the same on both sides.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)

    Nature seems to have treasured up the depth of our mind talents and abilities that we are not aware of; it is the privilege of the passions alone to bring them to light, and to direct us sometimes to surer and more excellent aims than conscious effort could.
    François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

    The aims of life are the best defense against death.
    Primo Levi (1919–1987)
