Lawyer Ron - Rebel Stakes

Rebel Stakes

In the 2006 Grade III Rebel Stakes held at Oaklawn Park on March 18, Lawyer Ron got a poor start and wound up trapped against the rail in fifth. Coming out of the first turn, he moved to the outside but remained in fifth down the backstretch. Under jockey John McKee, Lawyer Ron made his move at the start of the second turn. Moving strongly up the field, he took the lead by the time he came out of the turn and won by three lengths.

Famous quotes containing the words rebel and/or stakes:

It was evident that, both on account of the feudal system and the aristocratic government, a private man was not worth so much in Canada as in the United States; and, if your wealth in any measure consists in manliness, in originality and independence, you had better stay here. How could a peaceable, freethinking man live neighbor to the Forty-ninth Regiment? A New-Englander would naturally be a bad citizen, probably a rebel, there,—certainly if he were already a rebel at home.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Law makes long spokes of the short stakes of men.
    William Empson (1906–1984)
