Lawyer Ron - Arkansas Derby

Arkansas Derby

The 2006 Arkansas Derby was a $1 million Grade II stakes race run at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on April 15, 2006. Lawyer Ron was the odds-on favorite in the race. Early in the race, he was bottled in between horses in fourth but moved up on the rail coming out of the first turn to gain the lead. After gaining the lead, Lawyer Ron held off his competitors at about 1½ lengths, until he was challenged by Private Vow coming out of the second turn. Lawyer Ron then pulled away and won by 2¾ lengths over a late-surging Steppenwolfer.

Famous quotes containing the word arkansas:

The man who would change the name of Arkansas is the original, iron-jawed, brass-mouthed, copper-bellied corpse-maker from the wilds of the Ozarks! He is the man they call Sudden Death and General Desolation! Sired by a hurricane, dam’d by an earthquake, half-brother to the cholera, nearly related to the smallpox on his mother’s side!
