Launceston College

Launceston College is located in Tasmania's second largest city of Launceston. The school offers a large variety of educational subjects for a considerable number of Tasmanians. The campus stretches over two city blocks and incorporates a state of the art gymnasium complex including a swimming pool with sauna and spa, two full size basketball courts, rock climbing wall, full weights gym and squash courts. It has a commercial equiped training restaurant, an FM radio station, automotive workshop and Television Studio. The Launceston College on air radio station (LCFM )is can be found on the FM frquency of 87.8 and is also streamed to the web from here.

Launceston College is a government school which enrolls students studying years 11, 12 and 13. The college promotes itself as a high quality, safe learning environment, and offers a wide variety of subjects to its students. There are over 1400 students who attend classes on campus. Launceston College has consistently maintained an academic program of the highest order. Its students regularly achieve university entrance scores in the top ten percent. It has the highest retention rate of any public college in the state and the highest percentage of students in the government system gaining the Tasmanian Certificate of Education. Due to its size it is able to provide an extensive and broad curriculum that provides students with a multitude of pathways for the future. It has R.T.O ( Recognised Training Authority) status that allows it to offer excellent vocational courses ranging from Building and Construction, Automotive, and Child Studies, to Hospitality and Retail.

The College also has an International Student Program. Students come from across the globe to experience the high quality academic program, suppotive school environment and excellent facilities that allow their stay to be fruitful and enriching. The school has a dedicated team that are avilable to support the student in their school and home stay setting.

The college also offers the yearly opportunity to students to be involved in high-quality, professional stage productions. In recent years the college has presented Back To The 80s Elton John's and Tim Rice's 'Aida' and the remake of Footloose. Earlier productions have been Chess, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cinderocka, Footloose, Grease, Hair, High School Musical and Disco Inferno.

The school also offers overseas travel opportunities. In 2013 the college is offering the experience of walking the Kakoda Trail.

In March 2013 Launceston College celebrates 100 years. What began as a revolutionary experiment in post primary education in Tasmania to create Launceston State High School (1913 - 1964), evolved into a college focusing on the needs of post year 10. As a college the name has changed from Launceston Matriculation College, then Launceston Community College to reflect its broader academic curriculum and vocational influence, to then be renamed Launceston College.
