Many of Mishra's family members are involved in public service. Mishra's son Vijay Kumar Mishra is an MLA. Mishra's younger brother Jagannath Mishra has been Chief Minister of Bihar for three terms. His nephew Nitish Mishra (Jagannath Mishra's son) is a cabinet minister in Bihar. Another of his nephews Rajiv Mishra is a well known broadcast/media professional and founder of Electronic Media Rating Council of India. He is currently Managing Lok Sabha TV (LSTV) as CEO and also host one of the most popular weekly interview show "Special Guest". His contribution in TV Ratings methodology in Europe has been recognised by ITU/EBU in 1996 at Geneva.
