La Salle River

The La Salle is a river in Manitoba, with its source near Portage La Prairie and terminating in the Red River in Saint Norbert (southern Winnipeg). The La Salle River flows mainly through agricultural land. It is a slow-moving, meandering prairie river with variable depth. It is the primary river that flows throughout most of the rural municipality of Macdonald.

On older maps, the river is named la Rivière Sale, la Rivière Salle, Salle River, or Stinking River.

Famous quotes containing the words salle and/or river:

Green, green is El Aghir. It has a railway station,
And the wealth of its soil has borne many another fruit:
A mairie, a school and an elegant Salle de Fetes.
Such blessings, as I remarked, in effect, to the waiter,
Are added unto them that have plenty of water.
    Norman Cameron (b. 1905)

but we wish the river had another shore,
some further range of delectable mountains,
    Robert Lowell (1917–1977)
