KTVA - Controversy

Controversy

In October 2010, a voice-mail accidentally left on the phone of Randy DeSoto, spokersperson for U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller, included KTVA reporters allegedly talking about whether they could find a Miller campaign supporter who was a registered sex offender at one of the candidate's rallies, and about how they could publicize any potential violent incidents through social network alerts. Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin responded to the controversy by calling them "corrupt bastards".

After an internal investigation, the station terminated two producers involved with the voicemail discussion. The station manager stated that "The recorded conversation in question specifically involved how that evening's Miller rally might be promoted and the ensuing dialogue went down hill from there. These particular comments were not in line with KTVA standards."

On November 10, 2010, KTVA cancelled its 5PM and 6PM newscasts that night, replacing those newscasts with repeats of The New Adventures of Old Christine; station officials said via Twitter that the night's newscasts were cancelled "in order to address an internal matter." The 10PM newscast was not affected.

Famous quotes containing the word controversy:

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)
