Public Outreach
The Koffler Scientific Reserve at Jokers Hill is about more than the formal research and education which take place in classrooms, laboratories and fields. Among the Reserve's public education and outreach initiatives is an annual series of natural history workshops and guided nature walks that are designed to help alleviate the “nature deficit disorder” that afflicts our increasingly urbanized society. Through collaborative programs with institutions like the Oak Ridges Trail Association, Bruce Trail Association, Ontario Nature, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and the York Region Department of Natural Heritage and Forestry, the Koffler Scientific Reserve is expanding its mission as a centre for lifelong learning in natural history and environmental stewardship.

Famous quotes containing the word public:
“[Rutherford B. Hayes] was a patriotic citizen, a lover of the flag and of our free institutions, an industrious and conscientious civil officer, a soldier of dauntless courage, a loyal comrade and friend, a sympathetic and helpful neighbor, and the honored head of a happy Christian home. He has steadily grown in the public esteem, and the impartial historian will not fail to recognize the conscientiousness, the manliness, and the courage that so strongly characterized his whole public career.”
—Benjamin Harrison (18331901)
