Knoxville Voice - Mission Statement

Mission Statement

As Knoxville's locally owned, independent and free newspaper, Knoxville Voice published bi-weekly with a focus on local news and cultural events. Knoxville Voice's mission was to:

  • Give voice to issues, events, and people in our community often underrepresented in mainstream media
  • Sustain a reader demographic that is as diverse as the issues we cover

Knoxville Voice worked to accomplish this mission by:

  • Reporting stories as they affect ordinary people
  • Eschewing the interests of large corporations
  • Maintaining a progressive world view
  • Emphasizing social responsibility and democratic participation

Famous quotes containing the words mission and/or statement:

I cannot be a materialist—but Oh, how is it possible that a God who speaks to all hearts can let Belgravia go laughing to a vicious luxury, and Whitechapel cursing to a filthy debauchery—such suffering, such dreadful suffering—and shall the short years of Christ’s mission atone for it all?
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

It is commonplace that a problem stated is well on its way to solution, for statement of the nature of a problem signifies that the underlying quality is being transformed into determinate distinctions of terms and relations or has become an object of articulate thought.
    John Dewey (1859–1952)
