Coaching
During his first season as a coach he guided the FC Twente reserve side to the championship in the reserve competition. He said that he was disappointed at the lack of interest his former club Ajax had shown when he started his training career. The club offered him the opportunity to become an assistant coach but at a low level (the 7- and 8-year-olds), which he found insulting. Instead he worked his way up by working for AZ, N.E.C. and Brisbane Roar, and his first independent coaching job at FC Twente.
