Kiyotaka Nanbara - Career

Career

In 1985, while attending the Yokohama Broadcasting Technical School (now the Japan Academy of Moving Images), Kiyotaka was in the same class as Tetsuro Degawa, and Masato Irie. He decided to perform with Nanbara as a manzai duo and was given the name "Utchan, Nanchan" by his teacher, Keiko Utsumi. They appeared on "The Birth of a Comedian!" show (お笑いスター誕生!!). The next year they won the competition and received the "New Duo" award. In 1992 Utchan Nanchan won the Japanese Academy Award for "Best New Actors" for their role in the movie "Cult Seven" (七人のおたく). In 1999 they crossed the English Channel on their TV show, "Utchan Nanchan's Urinari." In 2001 he became a member of Japanese musical group Memory Cats and led the comedy musical group Happa-tai, whose song Yatta became an internet meme.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

Whether lawyer, politician or executive, the American who knows what’s good for his career seeks an institutional rather than an individual identity. He becomes the man from NBC or IBM. The institutional imprint furnishes him with pension, meaning, proofs of existence. A man without a company name is a man without a country.
    Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)

I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my “male” career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my “male” pursuits.
    Margaret S. Mahler (1897–1985)
