Kingston Upon Hull City Police

Kingston upon Hull City Police was the police force responsible for policing the city of Kingston upon Hull in northern England until 1974, when it was amalgamated under the Local Government Act 1972 with parts of other forces to form the Humberside Police.

Famous quotes containing the words city and/or police:

    The City is of Night; perchance of Death,
    But certainly of Night; for never there
    Can come the lucid morning’s fragrant breath
    After the dewy dawning’s cold grey air;
    James Thomson (1834–1882)

    Now, honestly: if a large group of ... demonstrators blocked the entrances to St. Patrick’s Cathedral every Sunday for years, making it impossible for worshipers to get inside the church without someone escorting them through screaming crowds, wouldn’t some judge rule that those protesters could keep protesting, but behind police lines and out of the doorways?
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1953)
