Personal Views and Family

Abney-Hastings was a committed Australian republican and expressed no interest in pursuing his claim to the throne, although he was amused by it. Abney-Hastings refrained from using his title publicly.

Abney-Hastings had two sons and three daughters with his wife Noelene Margaret McCormick (they married in 1969). His eldest son Simon Abney-Hastings held the courtesy title Lord Mauchline until his father's death on 30 June 2012. He then succeeded his father as the 15th Earl of Loudoun. Until his death, the 14th Earl was one of the seven co-heirs to the Barony of Grey de Ruthyn.

  • The Lady Amanda Louise Abney-Hastings (born 1969)
  • The Lady Lisa Maree Abney-Hastings (1971-2012)
  • Simon Michael Abney-Hastings, 15th Earl of Loudoun (born 1974)
  • The Lady Rebecca Lee Abney-Hastings (born 1974)
  • The Hon. Marcus William Abney-Hastings (born 1981)

Abney-Hastings was a councillor of the Jerilderie Shire, elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2008.

Famous quotes containing the words personal, views and/or family:

Denouement to denouement, he took a personal pride in the
certain, certain way he lived his own, private life,
but nevertheless, they shut off his gas; nevertheless,
    the bank foreclosed; nevertheless, the landlord called;
    nevertheless, the radio broke,

And twelve o’clock arrived just once too often,
    Kenneth Fearing (1902–1961)

Experiences in order to be educative must lead out into an expanding world of subject matter, a subject matter of facts or information and of ideas. This condition is satisfied only as the educator views teaching and learning as a continuous process of reconstruction of experience.
    John Dewey (1859–1952)

Female Virtues are of a Domestick turn. The Family is the proper Province for Private Women to Shine in. If they must be showing their Zeal for the Publick, let it not be against those who are perhaps of the same Family, or at least of the same Religion or Nation, but against those who are the open, professed, undoubted Enemies of their Faith, Liberty, and Country.
    Joseph Addison (1672–1719)
