Kilkenny Central Access Scheme - Concerns Raised

Concerns Raised

  • The proposed route dissects the medieval core of the old Irishtown of Kilkenny, one of the most historic quarters of the city.

After concerns of stakeholders and members of the public, changes that have taken place in the design include;

  • To build a unified city centre with the River Nore at its heart, with strong connectivity between High Street, The Mart and McDonagh Junction
  • Improve access to the city centre and provide for economic and cultural development;
  • Reduce the impact of road traffic and private car domination on the city centre; and enable partial pedestrianization of John’s Street and High Street.
  • Improved accessibility for emergency services and access to health facilities and hospitals;
  • Make provision for planned residential development on the west side of the city without creating traffic problems in existing residential areas.

Famous quotes containing the words concerns and/or raised:

    Art and science coincide insofar as both aim to improve the lives of men and women. The latter normally concerns itself with profit, the former with pleasure. In the coming age, art will fashion our entertainment out of new means of productivity in ways that will simultaneously enhance our profit and maximize our pleasure.
    Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956)

    It is worth the expense of youthful days and costly hours, if you learn only some words of an ancient language, which are raised out of the trivialness of the street, to be perpetual suggestions and provocations. It is not in vain that the farmer remembers and repeats the few Latin words which he has heard.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
