Overview

Karavalur is a village located in Kollam district of Kerala.

Karavalur Panchayathu is located about 6 km from Punalur on Punalur- Anchal or Punalur Thiruvananthapuram road.

The scenic beauty of the area is quite noteworthy. The place is filled with rubber plantation, Banana plantation, jack fruit trees and paddy fields. Karavalur is surrounded by beautiful places like Poikayil, Ayanicodu, Venjembu, and Mathra, where the Panchayath administrative office as well as the village office is located. The post office of Karavalur is located at the heart of Karavalur jn, which is apart from Mathra Post office. The majority of the population are members of the Hindus, Christians or Muslims. Karavaloor is blessed with the presence of Goddess Bhadrakali known as Peedika Bhagavathy. Karavalur temple festival is a very famous celebration in the area and its been considered as the biggest events in taluk. It is celebrated in the Malayalam Month of Meenam and is known as Meenathiruvathira. There is so many churches situated here, few of them are Bethel Marthoma Church containing more than 600 families, Kereeth Marthoma Church, St Benedict Catholic Church (Malankara), St George Orthodox Church.

Karavalur village has two high schools namely, Karavalur ( AMMHS) and Venjembu higher secondary school, apart from them, there is a Govt run lower primary school at Karavalur. Oxford senior secondary school, Carmel central School, with cbse syllabus is situated here.
