Juan de Fuca Marine Trail

The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail is a rugged 47-kilometre wilderness hiking trail located within Juan de Fuca Provincial Park along the southwestern coast of Vancouver Island. The trail stretches from China Beach, 35 km west of Sooke, to Botanical Beach, just outside Port Renfrew.

Breathtaking views of the coastline, Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympic Mountains can be seen from many points along this rainforest trail. Lucky are those who spot a pod of whales, but it is not uncommon to view sea lions, bald eagles, herons and other wildlife.

The trail can be hiked in part, as a day hike, or backpacked in its entirety in four to six days. Unlike the longer West Coast Trail (75 km), the Juan de Fuca Trail does not require a reservation; however, there is a backcountry camping fee of $10 per person/per night.

Famous quotes containing the words juan, marine and/or trail:

    Is that the Craig Jurgesen that Teddy Roosevelt gave you?... And you used it at San Juan Hill defending liberty. Now you want to destroy it.
    Laurence Stallings (1894–1968)

    God has a hard-on for a Marine because we kill everything we see. He plays His game, we play ours.
    Stanley Kubrick (b. 1928)

    And Change with hurried hand has swept these scenes:
    The woods have fallen, across the meadow-lot
    The hunter’s trail and trap-path is forgot,
    And fire has drunk the swamps of evergreens;
    Yet for a moment let my fancy plant
    These autumn hills again: the wild dove’s haunt,
    The wild deer’s walk: in golden umbrage shut,
    Frederick Goddard Tuckerman (1821–1873)
