Joint Commission On Allied Health Personnel In Ophthalmology

The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) is the international certifying body for allied health personnel in the medical field of ophthalmology, who are collectively termed ophthalmic medical personnel (OMP). It is governed by a board that represents related organizations that have an interest in developing the personnel in ophthalmology, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The central office of JCAHPO is located in Woodbury, Minnesota.

JCAHPO offers three professional certifications that are successive, forming a career ladder:

  1. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) - entry level
  2. Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) - intermediate level
  3. Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) - advanced level

JCAHPO also offers four specialty certifications:

  • Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS)
  • Ophthalmic surgical assisting
  • Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist (ROUB)
  • Corporate Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (CCOA)

Related to JCAHPO is the Association of Technical Personnel in Ophthalmology, which is a professional association of OMP. ATPO does not provide certification, but facilitates professional activities such as networking, continuing education, and professional certification.

Famous quotes containing the words joint, commission, allied, health and/or personnel:

    Your letter of excuses has arrived. I receive the letter but do not admit the excuses except in courtesy, as when a man treads on your toes and begs your pardon—the pardon is granted, but the joint aches, especially if there is a corn upon it.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

    It is impossible to calculate the moral mischief, if I may so express it, that mental lying has produced in society. When a man has so far corrupted and prostituted the chastity of his mind as to subscribe his professional belief to things he does not believe he has prepared himself for the commission of every other crime.
    Thomas Paine (1737–1809)

    Our security depends on the Allied Powers winning against aggressors. The Axis Powers intend to destroy democracy, it is anathema to them. We cannot provide that aid if the public are against it; therefore, it is our responsibility to persuade the public that aid to the victims of aggression is aid to American security. I expect the members of my administration to take every opportunity to speak to this issue wherever they are invited to address public forums in the weeks ahead.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)

    To thee, fair Freedom! I retire
    From flattery, cards, and dice, and din:
    Nor art thou found in mansions higher
    Than the low cot, or humble inn.

    ‘Tis here with boundless pow’r I reign;
    And ev’ry health which I begin
    Converts dull port to bright champagne;
    Such Freedom crowns it, at an inn.
    William Shenstone (1714–1763)

    This woman is headstrong, obstinate and dangerously self- opinionated.
    —Report by Personnel Officer at I.C.I., rejecting Mrs. Thatcher for a job in 1948.
