Battles married Jane Anderson. On Jan. 29, 1948 The New York Times ran a short item announcing the wedding for the upcoming 14 February. Miss Anderson's profession was stated there as a short story writer. Miss Anderson was elsewhere noted as a former model and the daughter of evangelist and author George Wood Anderson. At the time of his death in Fredricksburg, TX, Battles was survived by daughter Catherine Erhard, four grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
