John Bassett Moore - Legacy

Legacy

He was honored on a U.S. postage stamp, issued December 3, 1966, the $5 value of the Prominent Americans series. In 1922, while the Honorable Judge J.B. Moore was living, a new High School was dedicated in his hometown of Smyrna Delaware bearing his name. This served as an institution of all grades, 1 through 12 until about 1953 when the first new elementary school was added. This High School served as the graduating and launching point of all graduates until 1970. Thereafter the new High School served for the graduates. The High School which had served so many years and been the focal of so many graduates' memories was shut down for about a period of 2 years for renovations. It then was renamed The John Bassett Moore Intermediate School, a public school for the 5th and 6th grades in his hometown of Smyrna, Delaware.
