Joel Hart (basketball)

Joel Hart (born 24 August 1984, in Christchurch, New Zealand), is a New Zealand basketballer who currently plays as a point guard for the Canterbury Rams in the New Zealand National Basketball League. Hart played his high school basketball at Kaiapoi High School where he excelled, eventually making the New Zealand Under 19 basketball team. In the 2003 NBL season, Hart made his Canterbury Rams debut playing in three matches, without scoring a point. During the 2004 and 2005 NBL season's he featured in a handful of matches also, but without much impact. In the current 2006 New Zealand National Basketball League season, Hart is relishing playing under new rams head coach, Chris Sparks, where he is backing up Jeremy Kench at the point guard position. On May 11, 2006 Hart had a then career high ten points in a victory over the Taranaki Mountain Airs . Hart then backed this up with an outstanding all round performance on May 27, 2006 registering a new career high of 23 points against the Waikato Pistons, where he hit 4 three point field goals. Hart has been known to be very patriotic towards his Canterbury province. He is often seen wearing red and black socks on the floor for the rams, or a red or black wristband.
