Two Republicans Succeed Salter
Not only did Republican Jim Tucker succeed Salter as Speaker of the House, but Republican Frank A. Howard followed him in the District 24 seat. The district grew more Republican with the removal of heavily Democratic Bienville Parish and the placement of fifteen precincts in Vernon Parish, which is more politically balanced between the parties. Frankie Howard, as he is known, hence became in 2008 the first Republican representative ever from District 24.
In 2008, Salter was inducted into the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame in Winnfield

“Yesterday the Electoral Commission decided not to go behind the papers filed with the Vice-President in the case of Florida.... I read the arguments in the Congressional Record and cant see how lawyers can differ on the question. But the decision is by a strictly party voteeight Republicans against seven Democrats! It shows the strength of party ties.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
“Love stories are only fit for the solace of people in the insanity of puberty. No healthy adult human being can really care whether so-and-so does or does not succeed in satisfying his physiological uneasiness by the aid of some particular person or not.”
