Jim Benton (American Football) - Coaching Career

Coaching Career

In 1948, Benton helped coach the Ram receivers, including future Hall of Famer Tom Fears. Also, in later years, at the request of George Halas, he helped coach the Bears' receivers.

From 1951 to 1953, Benton was head coach of the Arkansas A&M (now University of Arkansas at Monticello), leading the team to their first ever Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference title in 1953 with a record of 7-1, and was named the AIC coach of the year in 1953 by the Arkansas Democrat.

After coaching, Benton went into the oil business.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

“Never hug and kiss your children! Mother love may make your children’s infancy unhappy and prevent them from pursuing a career or getting married!” That’s total hogwash, of course. But it shows on extreme example of what state-of-the-art “scientific” parenting was supposed to be in early twentieth-century America. After all, that was the heyday of efficiency experts, time-and-motion studies, and the like.
