Jennifer Koh

Jennifer Koh is an American violinist, born to Korean parents in Glen Ellyn, IL.

Jennifer Koh earned a B.A. in English Literature from Oberlin College, as well as a Performance Diploma from the attached Oberlin Conservatory. She is also a graduate of the Curtis Institute and was silver medalist in the 1994 Tchaikovsky Competition. That year she also won a scholarship from the Concert Artists Guild.

Ms. Koh has performed extensively with such orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony, and Cleveland Orchestra and is an advocate of music education for children.

She frequently records new music, as well as albums that combine classics with less popular contemporary pieces (e.g. Franz Schubert with Arnold Schoenberg)

She currently plays the 1727 Ex Grumiaux Ex General DuPont Stradivari.

She is married to pianist Benjamin Hochman, who occasionally performs with her. The couple were the soloists in the American premiere of the Double Concerto for Violin, Piano and Orchestra, Op. 40, by Lera Auerbach with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrew Constatine on February 13, 2010.

In 2012, Koh was a featured performer in the revival of the Philip Glass/Robert Wilson freeform opera Einstein on the Beach, portraying the role of Einstein.
