Jean Anyon is a leading critical thinker and researcher in education. Her work uses political economy to assess the impact of public policy on urban neighborhoods and schools. Her focus has been on the confluence of race, social class, and policy.
In her paper Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work (Journal of Education, 1980) she showed how the schools of different social classes educate their children differently. This is cultural reproduction.
She is a professor of social and educational policy at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
