Javanese Mythology
Mythology of Indonesia is mythology of Indonesian people. Unlike other nations or cultures with a relatively homogenous ethnic demography such as Egypt, Greece or Japan, mythology in Indonesia is very diverse. This is because Indonesia consists of hundreds of ethnic groups, each of them have their own etiology myths and legends that explain their gods, the origin of their people, the tales of their ancestors, and the mythical beings (demons or deities) in their systems of beliefs. The tendency to syncretize by overlying older traditions with newer foreign ideas is also occurred, for example the older ancestral mythology might be incorporated with overlying foreign mythology, such as Hindu, Islam, or Christian biblical mythology. Mythology in Indonesia are closely connected with folklores.
