History
Legislation was signed on October 28, 2000 allowing Clark County to purchase land for a new commercial airport. Clark County, Nevada is buying 6,500 acres (2,600 ha) of land in the Ivanpah Valley from the Bureau of Land Management about 30 miles (48 km) southwest of McCarran International Airport for the Ivanpah Airport. This location is between Jean and Primm.
The airport had been planned to open in 2017, however the Clark County Department of Aviation announced the project was put on temporary hold as of June 2010 until demand & air traffic and tourism to Las Vegas increases.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“If man is reduced to being nothing but a character in history, he has no other choice but to subside into the sound and fury of a completely irrational history or to endow history with the form of human reason.”
—Albert Camus (19131960)
“A poets object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.”
—Aristotle (384323 B.C.)
“Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
