Italy in The Eurovision Song Contest 1956

Italy used the Sanremo Music Festival to choose its two songs that would go to the Eurovision Song Contest 1956. The songs chosen were Aprite Le Finestre (Open The Windows), sung by Franca Raimondi, and Amami Se Vuoi (Love Me If You Want To), sung by Tonina Torrielli. Although Switzerland won the contest, it is unknown how many points the Italian songs, as well as all the other songs in the contest, actually received.

Famous quotes containing the words italy, song and/or contest:

I think sometimes that it is almost a pity to enjoy Italy as much as I do, because the acuteness of my sensations makes them rather exhausting; but when I see the stupid Italians I have met here, completely insensitive to their surroundings, and ignorant of the treasures of art and history among which they have grown up, I begin to think it is better to be an American, and bring to it all a mind and eye unblunted by custom.
    Edith Wharton (1862–1937)

    Marlowe went muttering to death
When he had done with song and lust.
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

The contest ends at midnight tonight
But you can submit again, and again.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
