Islamic Forum of Europe

The Islamic Forum of Europe (IFE) is an Islamic organisation based in London with branches throughout the United Kingdom. Its website states it has branches in "most of the European countries including: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland".

Its youth wing is called the Young Muslim Organisation (YMO), which is based in Tower Hamlets, "with several branches across Britain," and is very active among the Bangladeshi community. The YMO was established mainly by Bangladeshi youths in East London during the period of racial attacks in Tower Hamlets in 1978. Its women's wing is Muslimaat UK.

The group is said to have a more limited following in Birmingham where it has around 80 members. Its London and Sunderland branches are affiliated to the Muslim Council of Britain.

Famous quotes containing the words forum and/or europe:

What is called eloquence in the forum is commonly found to be rhetoric in the study. The orator yields to the inspiration of a transient occasion, and speaks to the mob before him, to those who can hear him; but the writer, whose more equable life is his occasion, and who would be distracted by the event and the crowd which inspire the orator, speaks to the intellect and heart of mankind, to all in any age who can understand him.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The confrontation between America and Europe reveals not so much a rapprochement as a distortion, an unbridgeable rift. There isn’t just a gap between us, but a whole chasm of modernity.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
