The International Festival of Peace Poetry (Persian: جشنواره بین المللی شعر صلح) is an international festival held biannually in Iran. The first Peace Poetry Festival was held in Tehran on May 16, 2007, with poets from sixteen different countries participating, and the second Festival was held on May 16, 2009.
Peace Poetry Festival is the brainchild of Ms Rira Abbasi, Iranian author and poet. The organization of the Festival is supported solely by the donations of individuals and sponsorships of non-governmental organizations and relies on no state subsidy. The charter of the festival states that: "Poetry for peace is affiliated to humanity, regardless of race, religion, sex and geography."
Famous quotes containing the words festival, peace and/or poetry:
“Three times a year all your males shall appear before the LORD your God at the place that he will choose: at the festival of unleavened bread, at the festival of weeks, and at the festival of booths. They shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed; all shall give as they are able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God that he has given you.”
—Bible: Hebrew, Deuteronomy 16:16,17.
“What they could do with round here is a good war. What else can you expect with peace running wild all over the place? You know what the trouble with peace is? No organization.”
—Bertolt Brecht (18981956)
“The trouble about soldiers in Mr. Siegfried Sassoons poetry ... is that they are the kind of people who in a railroad train have to travel with their backs to the engine. Peace can have but few corners softly padded enough for such sensitives.”
—Rebecca West (18921983)
