Health Issues
Fiji Indians face major obstacles when it comes to health. They are often cited in research articles as a group that has a higher than normal prevalence rate of Type 2 diabetes. Fiji Indians have high levels of insulin resistance, which in turn puts them at risk of Type 2 diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases are also high amongst Fiji Indians. This is due to both a high fat diet, which is common amongst this group, high smoking rates, and a very sedentary lifestyle.
