Students Governance

The school encourages students to take up responsibility, show initiative and develop leadership qualities. The various students bodies are, the Students Council (elected by the students), The Discipline Committee, The Sports Committee, The Green Brigade (To work on developing environmental awareness), DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) and RAW (Review & Analysis Wing, To assess the performance of the other committees)and a new body come into place is the Global Awareness currently headed by George Matthew(To work on developing global awareness)

The student council was the first of these teams to be commissioned, and the list of head boys and head girls can be seen in the Multi purpose hall. The hierarchy goes as prefect(4 for each house), vice-captain, captain, vice head girl, vice head boy, head girl and head boy.

The Discipline Committee, responsible mainly for maintaining discipline in the school consists of two heads and a number of prefects. As of 2011.12, it is led by Karan Kapoor and Kohsheen Zutshi.

The Sports Committee has a similar organization, and is currently led by Varun Behani (as of 2011/12).

The green Brigade, originally started as an awareness movement, now strikes fear into the hearts of polythene bearers (who if caught will be fined N1000) and litterers. It is led by Mrs Sonali Lokur who has worked with various NGO's.

D.E.A.R, founded only recently, has now begun gaining face among the I.L.S students, though their main problem is the indifference shown to them by the students. Nevertheless, their popularity is rising.

The Global Awareness Team was established most recently in the beginning of 2009 to spread awareness about the world. They usually have a slot in the assembly to tell students what historical events took place on certain days. They also regularly put up Quizzes on all floors for the students to answer. They are led by Mrs Mehan.

R.A.W(Review and Analysis Wing) is the review committee for all the other committees of the school and has no distinguished head, but has 5 members, all being from Grade XII.

Famous quotes containing the words students and/or governance:

    I know that I will always be expected to have extra insight into black texts—especially texts by black women. A working-class Jewish woman from Brooklyn could become an expert on Shakespeare or Baudelaire, my students seemed to believe, if she mastered the language, the texts, and the critical literature. But they would not grant that a middle-class white man could ever be a trusted authority on Toni Morrison.
    Claire Oberon Garcia, African American scholar and educator. Chronicle of Higher Education, p. B2 (July 27, 1994)

    He yaf me al the bridel in myn hand,
    To han the governance of hous and land,
    And of his tonge and his hand also;
    Geoffrey Chaucer (1340?–1400)
