Indian Community of London

Indian Community Of London

Indians are London's largest non-white ethnic minority group, with a population of around 500,000 (which is more than the number of Indians in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy and Portugal combined) . The largest communities can be found in west London, with substantial populations in East, South and North London.

Many members of London's Indian community can trace their ancestry to the Indian states of Punjab and Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Rajastan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. A significant number of Indians in London come from East Africa, the Caribbean, and Southern Africa.

Famous quotes containing the words indian, community and/or london:

Land of opportunity, land for the huddled masses—where would the opportunity have been without the genocide of those Old Guard, bristling Indian tribes?
    Edward Hoagland (b. 1932)

The poorest children in a community now find the beneficent kindergarten open to them from the age of two-and-a-half to six years. Too young heretofore to be eligible to any public school, they have acquired in their babyhood the vicious tendencies of their own depraved neighborhoods; and to their environment at that tender age had been due the loss of decency and self-respect that no after example of education has been able to restore to them.
    Virginia Thrall Smith (1836–1903)

A man who can dominate a London dinner table can dominate the world. The future belongs to the dandy. It is the exquisites who are going to rule.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
